María is dually licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She is also a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) by the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia. She earned her Master of Arts degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from Marquette University in 2010. Prior to becoming a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist, María earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, from the University of Florida, and spent five years in corporate America working in Research & Development as a formulator, process engineer, and project manager for S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc.
María's clinical experience includes serving clients in various settings, such as community mental health agencies, substance abuse treatment outpatient clinics, a residential youth-in-crisis shelter, a community college counseling center, and in private practice. Since founding Anima Christi Counseling in 2014, María has been providing psychosocial evaluations, counseling, and psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families, in English and Spanish. Her approach is integrative, evidence-based, and focused on the needs of each client. María's areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, trauma, career discernment, parenting, life transitions, grief, self-esteem issues, and relationship problems. She also specializes in psychosocial evaluations for immigration cases. As a clinical supervisor, she provides supervision to counselors working towards licensure in the State of Georgia.
